Portal magic links expire after 90 days. This is a security measure — it ensures that old links sent to old email addresses cannot be used indefinitely. Fresh links are easy to generate.
Token expiry
Every magic link contains a unique token tied to a wedding and an expiry timestamp. After 90 days from generation, the token is invalid. If a couple clicks an expired link, they will see a message saying the link has expired and prompting them to request a new one.
Couple self-service re-issue
The couple can request a fresh link themselves without contacting your team:
- They visit the portal login URL (the same URL, minus the token).
- They enter their email address (either partner's email will work).
- If the email matches a partner on a wedding record with an active portal, a new magic link is emailed to them.
This self-service flow only works if email is configured on your account. Without email, the couple will need to ask your team to send them a new link.
Re-issuing as a team member
To generate a new link from Weddinguru:
- Open the wedding record.
- Go to the Portal tab or section.
- Click Generate New Portal Link.
- A new token is created. Copy it or send it by email.
Generating a new token invalidates the previous one for that wedding. If the couple had bookmarked the old link, it will no longer work — they must use the new one.
Viewing active tokens
The Portal section on the wedding record shows all currently active tokens for that wedding — including when they were generated and when they expire. This is useful if you want to check whether a couple has a valid link before generating a new one unnecessarily.
