The couple portal uses magic link authentication — couples click a secure link sent by email rather than remembering a password. This keeps access simple while remaining secure.
No password required
Unlike your team's logins (which require a username, password and 2FA), couples never create a password. Access is through a time-limited link that authenticates them automatically when clicked. This reduces friction for couples who may only log in a handful of times during the planning process.
Generating a magic link
Open the wedding record and scroll to the Portal section (or click the Portal tab). Click Generate Portal Link. A secure token is created valid for 90 days. You can:
- Copy the link — paste it into an email, WhatsApp message or any other communication
- Email it directly — if email is configured, click Send by Email and Weddinguru sends the link to the couple's registered email address(es)
Sending the link to the couple
How you deliver the link is up to you. Options include:
- Emailing it via Weddinguru's send button (quickest)
- Copying and pasting it into your own email client
- Sending it via SMS or WhatsApp alongside a note explaining what the portal is
We recommend including a brief explanation the first time: what the portal is, what they can see, and that the link is personal to them.
Couple self-service link request
Couples can request a fresh link themselves at any time without contacting your team. From the portal login page, they enter their email address — if it matches a partner email on a wedding record, a new magic link is emailed to them. This means you only need to send the first link and couples can self-serve from there.
Expiry and re-issuing
Magic links expire after 90 days. When a couple's link expires, they can request a new one themselves via the portal login page (as above), or your team can generate and send a new one from the wedding record. Old tokens are invalidated when a new one is generated for the same wedding.
